Our South Loop store wanted to give one lucky Mom the grocery shop of her life for Mother’s Day. We invited the families, friends, and admirers of Super Moms to fill-out a ballot telling us why their favorite mom should receive a 30-second Super Shop of our store. The winning Mom walked away with enough meat and seafood to feed her  large family through Labor Day Weekend. Here is a sampling of what you had to say about Mommy Dearest.

In celebration of Cinco de Mayo at the South Loop, we hosted a pinata-making workshop with Joan Pinnell- the Director of local non-profit Creative Pitch. 15 kids and their families learned how to make a pinata with reclycled papers bags and stuffed their creations with all-natural treats from the aisles of the store.

We are pleased to announce that all proceeds from the activities taking place in the South Loop’s Lifestyle Center during the Spring term will be going to Creative Pitch! The Chicago-based non-profit garners arts supplies from design and marketing firms and gets them in the hands of the art teachers and students who need them most. WOW! We are so proud- here is Danny’s last check-in after the Celebration ceremony of his 28 Day Challenge group. Danny reports he’s lost 13 pounds and feels awesome to boot. He also gives some inspiring advice about how long he’s been trying to eat a diet free of meat or animal products and relays this isn’t the end of his Plant-Strong eating. We’ll check back with Danny in a couple weeks for an update. Bravo, Danny- Congratulations!!!!

If you’re interested in taking the plunge like Danny did, please check the store calendars of Whole Foods Market South Loop- http://wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/southloop/ where Health Starts Here 28 Day challenges are held every 2-3 months!

Video post after last class.  What a fun and exciting time.

This week, we headed off to school with Purple Asparagus to teach another fresh, fun-filled lesson in healthy-eating to 1st graders at Galileo and Jahn schools. Our students fearlessly tried tasty citrus including blood oranges, grapefruit, meyer lemons, and satsumas and learned about the origins of the fruits. We put their chef-skills to the test with recipes including a clementine mint salad and a tasty orange smoothie. Yum!

Video number three from my challenge. Sorry it took so long to so a new one. Check it out.

Just last month, Whole Foods Market Chicago was honored to partner up with Alternatives, Inc. for a special performance featuring Alternative’s very own Connect Force and the brilliant Yo-Yo Ma! The video above are a few highlights from the Connect Force breakers. It was an amazing night, and we were so happy to be a part of it.

Fast forward to January, and we’re happy to have Alternatives as our One Dime at a Time partner! Each time you bring in your own reusable bag(s) to any of the five Chicago stores, from now until March 31st, you can donate your bag credit(s) to Alternatives, Inc. Your donation will help Alternatives continue on with awesome programs, such as the Connect Force, that focus on leadership development, prevention of violence and substance abuse, academic enrichment and counseling.
